5 Day Southwest Experience


DAY 1 Perth - Pinnacles - Perth

Today we will show you the Pinnacles, a group of about 150,000 weird limestone formations ranging froaltm less than a metre to up to five metres high. Formed 15 to 30 thousand years ago from the deposits of shell left behind when the sea receded, time, erosion and the winds have combined to form such formations as the Indian Chief, Milk Bottles and many others. When seen against their background of golden sand, it is reminiscent of a field of ancient ruins.Then we visit the new Interpretative Center. On our way home we stop at Guilderton, a holiday and fishing village at the mouth of the Moore River.

Day  2 Rockingham - Dunsborough - Cape Naturaliste - Margaret River (PL)

Today we have time for an excursion with Dolphin Watch; Eco Encounter (optional) in Rockingham. For two hours you cruise through the ruggedly spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park in search of wild dolphins. pls see: www.dolphins.com.au
Then we are heading towards Dunsborough and visit the Cape Naturaliste National Park with Sugarloaf Rock, Bunker Bay Lookout and travel along Meelup Drive  with its idyllic bays to the Canal Rocks. In Margaret River we have time so sample some of the world renown Western Australian wines.

Day 3 Margaret River - Cape Leeuwin - Pemberton (B)

We spend more time in this very beautiful and interesting region of Margaret River. First we are heading to the river mouth which is fancied by the surfers. Then you have a chance to book for a  Bush Story Trail.  1 km walk along a bush trail that has been enhanced with bush tucker, medicine plants and traditional structures (mia-mia). This is a fascinating and informative journey of discovery as you re-live the history of the land and see the bush through the eyes of your Indigenous guide.: www.wardan.com.au (Bush Story Trail/optional)
Later we will visit Redgate Bay , the Boronup Forest Lookout, Hamelin Bay und Cosy Corner.From  Skippy Road we will see to Cape Leeuwin where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet.

Day 4, Saturday: Pemberton - Walpole - Albany (B)

We will be visiting the heart of the forests of Pemberton. The huge Karri trees, the third largest in the world, altaccompany you the whole day. If you are keen and brave enough you have the opportunity to climb the fire lookout, a 70m tall Karri tree, there are hundreds of step to climb, but the view from up there is well worth the effort. You will enjoy a most stunning extensive round view from Mount Chudalup (enormous Granite bolder). From there we will drive to Salmon Beach and to the d'Entrecasteaux National Park with its rugged coastline. We will reach Mandalay Beach, where you will have a fantastic view over the beach and the ocean. A further highlight of the area is the Tree Top Walk and the giant Tingle trees in the Ancient Empire in the Valley of the Giants. The trees can grow up to 18m in circumference and can reach 400 years of age. We may enjoy the view from a height of up to 40m and among the tree tops on a 600m round walk (highly recommended). After this adventure we continue our trip to William Bay National Park and its Elephant Rocks.

Day 5, Sunday: Albany - Perth (B)

On this day we explore the historical town of Albany, which was established in 1826. Albany's natural harbour made it a thriving whaling port. Today Albany has still some old colonial buildings and Stirling Terrace is noted for its Victorian shopfronts. We head towards Torndirrup National Park, situated on a stunning stretch of coastline that includes The Gap and Natural Bridge. Small bays invite the wary traveller to cool off and swim. Further along the way we will see the wind turbines which provide most of the power for the city of Albany. We then head back to Perth.
